Ingenuity, vision and ability to combine art and sustainability
There is another kind of Italian heritage that continues to win over the world. It is made of ingenuity, vision, and the ability to merge art with sustainability. It is a forward-looking Made in Italy—one that regenerates through beauty and speaks the languages of public art and green technology.
With this spirit, on May 31, 2025, Botanic Pulse came to life in Hell’s Kitchen Park, in the heart of Manhattan—a monumental 200-square-meter mural by artist Fabio Petani and the first U.S. project of the international Walls of Tomorrow program, promoted globally by the Italian non-profit Yourban 2030, founded by entrepreneur Veronica De Angelis.
Created using photocatalytic paint capable of reducing air pollution, the artwork represents one of the globally recognized Made in Italy best practices: that of Yourban 2030, which—since 2018, from Italy to Europe to the United States—has been narrating sustainability through creativity and concrete action; and that of Airlite, one of the four technologies identified by the United Nations for combating urban pollution.

a striking visual interpretation of Goal 15: “Life on Land”
The mural by urban artist Fabio Petani in New York is a striking visual interpretation of Goal 15: “Life on Land”, which calls for the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems. It underscores the urgent need to manage forests responsibly, combat desertification, reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.
At the heart of the artwork lies a powerful metaphor: nature confined within a vase—a delicate yet poignant symbol of the fragile state of our environment. The vase, a product of human craftsmanship, represents both our ability to nurture and our tendency to control. It encases thriving greenery, underscoring how human intervention often limits the organic freedom of nature, despite our dependence on its vitality. Beyond the boundaries of the vase, the background bursts with untamed and flourishing nature, contrasting sharply with the restrained ecosystem within the vessel. This juxtaposition serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance between preservation and exploitation.
The vibrant, sprawling landscape beyond the vase embodies the resilience and regenerative power of nature when left unhindered, while the confined flora within alludes to the risks of overmanagement and artificial constraints. Through this dynamic composition, Petani urges viewers to reflect on their role as stewards of the planet.
The mural challenges us to rethink our relationship with nature—not as masters, but as guardians who must protect, respect, and coexist with the natural world. By allowing ecosystems the space and autonomy they require, we can ensure their survival and, in turn, our own. This artwork is more than a mural; it is a call to action, a visual dialogue between nature and humanity, and a compelling reminder that the fate of our planet rests, quite literally, in our hands.
The Artist
Fabio Petani
Fabio Petani is an Italian artist born in the summer of 1987 in Pinerolo, Piedmont. After obtaining a science diploma, he earned a Master's degree in Cultural Heritage at the University of Turin, with a thesis dedicated to urban art and street culture from its origins to the present day.
His artistic work is distinguished by a harmonious fusion of botanical and chemical elements, creating pieces inspired by the aesthetics of herbariums and the periodic table of elements. Each mural is conceived in relation to the territorial context in which it is created, with plants and chemical compounds chosen to reflect local characteristics.
His style is characterized by the use of soft colors and geometric forms interwoven with natural motifs, offering a visual experience that encourages reflection on the relationship between humanity, nature, and the urban environment.
ECOSAPIENS TECHNOLOGY
Botanic Pulse will also be an augmented, immersive, and multi-channel artwork.
The mural will feature a QR code developed by Ecosapiens, the tech company responsible for the digitalization of the piece. Visitors will be able to scan the code to purchase the artwork, directly contributing to the creation of a fund for tree planting in Manhattan’s West Side, in collaboration with The Hort—thus creating a tangible link between public art and urban reforestation.

a multisensory experience
Botanic Pulse also offers another immersive experience through Bloomstorm, an original ambient soundtrack created by Italian artist Akawalk (Andrea Marra).
Freely accessible via the official website of the artwork, this soundscape transforms Botanic Pulse into a multisensory experience, where visual art and sound design merge into a single immersive flow that interacts with the urban environment.
